The Freehold of Huntington

Discretion is advised

With the acension of Spring in the Court of Point Pleasant, Queen Stephanie Hicks has left a vacancy in the Spring Court and Jenna Hale has thrown her hat into the ring for contention to become the new Viscount.

Ben, the new Baron of Huntington, and Current Count of Winter Court tasks the new founded motley with retrieving something from Brevoy’s Exchange, a well known Hedge Market that shows up during the three nights of the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. As a rule, Hedge Markets are illegal as they can alert the True Fey to local trods within the Hedge.

While contacting the motley, Ben indicates that he would like to personally interview Gregory, due to his potential close contact with The Mothman. Manny instantly has questions about why someone from the Court of Sorrows works so hard to elicit fear. While others question why Ben’s contact with the Young Changeling now in their charge seems so intimate.

While running the errand, Brevoy, the Imp who runs the Exchange, instantly recognized the members of the Motley as if they had been there before. He informs them that Ben has already paid, but has laid a curse upon the box if it opens before Ben opens the box, thought he personally does not know the details of the curse. He informs them that if they safely get the box to Ben without opening it that he will give them some fancy raiment to wear.

immediately upon exiting Brevoy’s Exchange, the Motley comes across a group of Hobgoblins and a Beastkin Wolf Changeling that claims that Brevoy stole the item from them and they want it back. Having repelled these roving band of Hedge Marauders, The Party makes their way back without running into the Chevaliers and delivers the box to Ben. who takes it to another room to open it. With the weight of the curse lifted from them Ben deliver’s the promised reward of preserved Goblin Fruit.

After a short encounter with the Chevaliers, whom they deflect from their true purpose of seeking Brevoy’s Exchange, they make their way into the shop in time to see a True Fey. It was a tall tree like humanoid shaped creature. The joint where it’s jaw would attach to a skull was wreathed in green flame instead and the top of it’s head floated there. From it’s skull was a great branching of several dozen antlers. It dropped some small eldritch beast, a writhing barrel like thing with many eyes and tentacles, onto the counter and took an old grey brick GameBoy from Brevoy. it turned to the party as if sniffing them while making its way out of the door. Upon exiting, it seemed as if colour and light filled the world once again. Brevoy happily provided the party with the promised reward, though not after a slight joke about the places odd and difficult to follow temporal mechanics.

Unbeknownst to Ben, however, Adam contacted Jenna about Ben’s involvement with the illegal goblin market who loaned Adam a trinket to spy upon the activities that she might use to her advantage when dealing with the court systems in the future. She called this token “A Fly on the Wall.”

Getting the Band Together
Motley Crew

Recent Winter snowstorms had been keeping Brandon Adkins, Fall Baron of Huntington, from teaching anything to the new changelings. His handyman service was being called in more than usual. it had been almost a year since business was this good, and there was money to be made, shoveling snow and ice and fixing up people’s electricity, and, if he was sly and charged more, their cable, too. But his reign was about to end and Jenna had made it clear that they needed to move out and on their own, for their own good as well as the good of those who were trying to replace the Court of Point Pleasant with a court of Huntington, or heaven forbid Court of Charleston.

Brandon walked into the house across the street. He did not knock or anything because why should he, it’s his house, dammit. the Smell of Adam’s cooking was always amazing. He’d miss it, but Hardee’s was just down the road, so he wasn’t too bummed about losing it. Besides, it’d been costing no small amount of money just to keep up with the big ogre’s talents.

Brandon let the gang and the new kid, Al, know that Jenna would be coming by with some options for where to live. Ben was next in line, his job with this nonsense was almost up and soon he could sit back for a while and let the shit show continue on its own. He was about to let them know more, but that punk ass kid, the so called Man Eater, sniffed him with his glamour. Brandon wasn’t sure what he did, though he had his suspicions since he was baron of the Autumn Court and knew the kid had an affinity for that sort of thing. It pissed him off and he left. Let Jenna deal with these ungrateful snots, he was glad to get the out of his goddam house.

Jenna was surprised at the addition of a newcomer, brought in by Ben, Baron of the Winter Court, no less. Winter may be the court of sorrow, but few were as terrifying as Ben could be. He’s too damn silent and he stares at you so blankly that you’re worried he might bite your head off. The Black Widow Spider look does not help any.

Unfortunately for this soon to be motley, they did not have a lot of access to money to be able to afford much, but there was a nice big trailer in Altizer that if they all pooled what little money they could scrape or even exchange favors to the landlord for (she was sure Adam’s cooking would be appreciated and might even begin paying for itself one day), they might be able to afford. Especially since they would be picking up at least one more roommate that she’d heard about (and stirrings of yet another, in the wind).

Jenna helped get them settled and the next day, after she discussed that a Motley was a group of changelings that often lived together or in close proximity and that had agreements to assist one another. After seeing their rough draft of their Motley rules and charter she was upset with herself for describing at “Kind of like a roommate agreement” when it was more like a pledge of loyalty and friendship to one another. But they were new and would figure it out. She’d make it her job to keep pestering them until they did it well enough for her liking, but for now, they got the gist of it and she could live with that.

Jenna explained about werewolf territory and the portions of the road that were Old Route 2 that changelings had to stick to per the treaty. She mentioned that up in LeSage on a portion of the Sann’s Drive that was Old Route 2 just off of Route two, a new changeling was coming through. She left them her car since Brandon and her needed to have a chat about plans to deal with Ben’s reign.

Up route two the newly formed Motley, with the exception of Dewey, found the road with little to no problem, even finding the portion of hedge was suspiciously easy. They turned to hear a car squealing up the road and when they turned back a new house had appeared beyond a copse of trees where once was only an overgrown dirt road.

As the neared the house the spied a clothesline upon which was the Mothman standing guard over a prone form face down on the ground. The Mothman took off when changelings approached disappearing by flying high into the hedge’s sky. They tried to take the slight and unconscious form back to the car, but before they could a Hobgoblin and her “pet” Briarwolf accused them of stealing her property and confronted them. She should have thought twice about attempting to team up against a pair of ogres, but the fight was settled when Al found a hand gun in Jenna’s glovebox. and fired on the Hobgoblin once her dog had been knocked unconscious. Sobbing she told them to take the kid, calling them thieves once again.

Once back with the new Changeling they had heard him stirringly mention something about Christmas and traffic in his semiconscious state. They mentioned this to Jenna, who asked them not to tell anyone else. The gang debated on using this knowledge as leverage for themselves with their contact with the Princess of Autumn, but decided they did not know enough about the court politics to do so effectively. Upon waking up the kid, a teenager by the name Gregory Smoot mentioned the he was from point pleasant and investigating the alien activity and especially the Mothman. The details of his memory started getting fuzzy around Christmas, he said he remembered being on the Silver Bridge, but wasn’t sure how he got there, or what happened afterward.

Jenna eventually got back in touch with them and as a reward for keeping quiet on something that could have huge implications for all changelings in the area in the future as well as something that could have propelled any political aspirations they had over her own goals, she gifted them with some documents for new IDs for them all so that they could all hopefully get some legal jobs in the near future, maybe even move out of this trailer park in Altizer.
